One of the themes that CSSC.gr is covering is job announcements.

Some people (especially in the Facebook page of CSSC) posted their qualifications asking for a job in Computational Science. We consider this a useful service, both for those asking and for the ones offering a job. If you are interested in finding a job related to Computational Science, send us your cv and we will let people know. More details here.

IEEE Cluster 2011

Posted on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 in CFP, Conferences, Distributed Computing, Event, High Performance Computing (HPC)

September 26, 2011toSeptember 30, 2011

Call for Papers

Cluster computing has become the most common method of configuring and deploying high performance computing systems. Clusters offer high performance that is cost-effective, and maturing software for clusters has made them more scalable and reliable. Clusters and are used to solve some of the most challenging and complex problems, to analyze and visualize massive data, and manage tremendous amounts of storage. Clusters have become the workhorse for computational science and engineering research, powering innovation and discovery that advance science and society.

However, there are many ongoing challenges and opportunities that must be addressed to build and use clusters of increasing scale with diverse technologies. Clusters may use commodity x86 processors but also GPUs or other accelerators, InfiniBand and other network technologies with different topologies, and different file system technologies with a wide range of node and disk configuration possibilities. The challenge to harness the parallel power of both small and large systems efficiently requires the concerted effort of the cluster community in the areas of cluster design and deployment, management and monitoring, and both system and applications software. A continued vigilance and assessment of the latest R&D developments are necessary to ensure that cluster computing can harness new technological advances in hardware and software to solve the challenges of today and tomorrow.

International Workshop on Security and Performance in Cloud Computing

July 4, 2011toJuly 8, 2011

International Workshop on Security and Performance in Cloud Computing
http://hpcs11.cisedu.info/conference/workshops/workshop-15---spcloud

(SPCLOUD 2011)

Call for Papers

As part of
The 2011 International Conference on High Performance Computing & Simulation
(HPCS 2011)

http://hpcs11.cisedu.info/

In Conjunction With
The International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Conference (IWCMC 2011)

July 4 – 8, 2011
Istanbul, Turkey

(Submission Deadline: February 14, 2011)

SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES
Cloud computing systems open a new perspective on almost every aspect of computing. Some
security issues raised by cloud computing are alleviated by virtualization but the performance
overheads should be balanced against this advantage. Dynamic scalability or “elasticity” will
help generalize high-performance computing and very large data sets in applications. But the
actual gains in performance depend heavily on the predictability of physical and virtualized
resources. Consequently, the balancing of performance against security and the adaptation of HPC
or VLDB techniques to cloud computing are of strategic importance and will have long-lasting
scientific content.

The SPCLOUD workshop will bring together researchers and IT practitioners to present new results
and ongoing work on the themes of security and performance in the cloud.

CSSC Job Market, Position sought: Post-Doc or Industry

Posted on Sunday, February 6, 2011 in Job Market

Name: Akintayo Holder
Age: 33
Degree: PhD Candidate (Spring 2011)
Position sought: Post-Doc or Industry

Research Area:
Parallel Computing and distributed systems. I want to tackle
interesting problems in parallel computing. My work has dealt with
small parts of the larger problem of how to handle the increasing
levels of parallelism in modern computers. I hope to continue to work
in high performance computing, demonstrating that large-scale
computers are a suitable platform for many compute intensive tasks.

Experience:
My thesis research involves investigating the impact of balance in
large scale platforms on application performance. Focused on
demonstrating how to efficiently deploy integer intensive applications
on large scale computers.
